Scaling New Heights 2026: Growth, Connection, and Embracing What’s Next
When I arrived at Scaling New Heights 2026, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. In fact, if I’m being truthful, I wasn’t even sure I wanted to attend. The beginning of June had already been packed, and all I could think was that this was one more thing “to do” on an already full calendar.
Before the conference, my son Andrew and I took a much-needed getaway to Marietta, Ohio, and nearby Blennerhassett Island in West Virginia. We stayed in a beautifully remodeled train car Airbnb, something that perfectly matched our shared love of history. For a few days, time seemed to slow down. We explored historical sites, enjoyed a water park, visited local restaurants and antique shops, and simply enjoyed spending quality time together. Those moments reminded me how important it is to step away occasionally and be fully present with the people who matter most.
When we returned home, I spent the next week caring for my sister’s dog, Ozzie, while she and her family traveled to Maine. Then, before I knew it, Monday morning had arrived, and I was boarding a plane for Orlando.
Like many business owners and professionals, I had plenty of work waiting for me at home and a long list of responsibilities competing for my attention. Attending the conference felt like another commitment added to an already busy month. Looking back, however, I’m incredibly grateful I went.
What I discovered wasn’t just a conference about accounting technology, AI, and the future of our profession. It was a reminder of the power of community, authenticity, resilience, and being open to opportunities that naturally surface when we show up.
The Human Side of AI
Artificial intelligence was undoubtedly one of the most talked-about topics throughout the conference. Every conversation seemed to touch on AI’s role in accounting, bookkeeping, advisory services, and software.
Yet the most important message wasn’t about technology at all.
Speaker after speaker emphasized that while AI can increase efficiency and automate tasks, it cannot replace authentic human connection. Used correctly, AI gives us back time, time that can be invested in relationships, strategic advising, leadership, and serving clients at a deeper level.
That message resonated with me. Technology should enhance our ability to connect with people, not replace it.
An Unexpected Honor
One of the most memorable moments of the conference was being recognized as the 2026 Top Niche Practice Advisor (retail for me) presented by Insightful Accountant.
Several years ago, my original goal had simply been to make the Top 100 list. Receiving a category award was something I never imagined.
Sitting backstage in the green room before going on stage was surreal. I was nervous, excited, but as the moment unfolded, I felt overwhelming gratitude.
This recognition may have my name attached to it, but it truly reflects the work of an incredible team. The support, expertise, and dedication of the Ability Business team have made every accomplishment possible.
June Has Been a Milestone Month
The conference gave me an opportunity to reflect on just how much progress we’ve made.
June was a milestone month for Ability Business and register, our simple POS checkout that connects with QuickBooks Online. In just a few short weeks, we accomplished so much:
- register by ability business was approved for the Intuit QuickBooks App Marketplace.
- Our team successfully completed the Weights & Measures certification, an important milestone for our retail point-of-sale solution for retailers that sell items by weight.
- We continued expanding our vision for register as an innovative retail technology platform.
- I was honored to be recognized by Insightful Accountant as the 2026 Top Niche Practice ProAdvisor recipient.
- We became members of the Retail Solutions Providers Association (RSPA), strengthening our connection to the retail technology community and positioning us for future partnerships and growth.
These milestones remind me that growth rarely happens overnight. It comes from consistently showing up, solving problems, and continuing to move forward even when the path isn’t always clear.
The Sessions That Left a Lasting Impact
Several main stage speakers and sessions stood out because they reinforced lessons that apply not only to business, but to life.
Living in Flux
April Rinne’s mainstage keynote around the Flux Mindset challenged attendees to embrace uncertainty and view change as an opportunity rather than something to fear.
In today’s environment, change is constant. The businesses and leaders who thrive are often the ones who learn to adapt rather than resist.
Developing a Resiliency Mindset
Alison Ball’s presentation on resilience and navigating growth reinforced something I’ve experienced repeatedly throughout my career: change is inevitable.
Whether we’re adapting to market shifts, new technologies, or unexpected challenges, resilience allows us to move forward with confidence and purpose.
Authenticity Matters
Shirley Koss’s session was one of my favorites.
Her message reinforced the importance of showing up authentically, both personally and professionally. When we lead with authenticity, we attract the right opportunities, relationships, and partnerships.
The Power of Connections
Perhaps the greatest takeaway from the conference was the reminder that relationships matter.
People were genuinely happy to reconnect. Conversations picked up right where they had left off. New introductions led to exciting possibilities.
Those moments reminded me that networking isn’t about collecting business cards. It’s about building relationships, sharing ideas, and creating opportunities that benefit everyone involved.
Some of the exciting conversations included:
- Exploring opportunities with Syft & Xero.
- Learning more about ledger-based accounting platforms such as Puzzle, Digits, and Kick.
- Connecting with Amplified Growth and investing in continued learning through their AI Jumpstart program.
- Discussing sponsorship opportunities and future collaborations.
- Sharing the register story with advisors, technology providers, and industry leaders.
None of those opportunities would have happened if I hadn’t shown up.
Looking Ahead
As Ability Business continues to grow, I’m excited about what comes next.
We’re entering a new phase. One that focuses not only on building a product but also on building partnerships, expanding our ecosystem, and continuing to serve the retail community in meaningful ways.
Our retail expertise, the development of register, our marketplace approval, and the relationships we’ve built all position us for exciting opportunities ahead.
Final Thoughts
Scaling New Heights 2026 reminded me of something simple but powerful:
Show up.
Be authentic.
Stay open to change.
Invest in relationships.
Trust the journey.
The award was an incredible honor, but it wasn’t the most important takeaway. The real value came from the conversations, the connections, the learning, and the reminder that growth happens when we’re willing to step into new opportunities even when we’re a little nervous about doing so.
As I look toward the second half of 2026, I’m energized, grateful, and excited for what’s next. The future is full of possibilities, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this journey leads. Thank you to everyone for all the support!
All the best,
Lisa
