Lightspeed and QuickBooks
When Intuit announced the sunsetting of QuickBooks Desktop POS v19, it was a seismic change for the Ability team and all of the businesses we partner with and support. As soon as we learned the news, we immediately determined what the discontinuation of not only software, but also hardware that people use as integral parts of their day-to-day business operations, would mean in practical terms, which we outlined first in a blog post and then, as inquiries began to roll in, we collated all of your excellent questions and did our best to provide concrete answers.
The other high-priority item on our to-do list? Finding POS solutions to fill the gap that would be left when QuickBooks POS v19 was no longer available or supported. On the horizon was our still-in-development proprietary POS solution, Ability Register POS, but with the rollout date for that in the future, we knew our clients, customers and potential clients and customers would need an answer—and they’d need it soon. Which was what brought us to Lightspeed.
Lightspeed POS Integration
Given our long existence in the point-of-sale realm, we were well-equipped to find an alternative to QuickBooks Desktop POS v19. And of course, Lightspeed was a known quantity to us, as are most point-of-sale systems that are in widespread use today by small and mid-market businesses. However, we had not had the opportunity to take a deep dive into Lightspeed, particularly how Lightspeed Retail and QuickBooks integrate—and when we did, we learned of the impressive features and benefits that come with Lightspeed POS integration.
At Ability, our clients and customers are everything—we often say we are powered by QuickBooks, but the client relationships we have formed and fostered during our two decades in business are the true power behind our success. As such, we knew finding a solution that we trusted for the people who trust in us was not optional. It was the number-one item on our agenda. And with Lightspeed and QuickBooks combined, we found a solution that works.
“We believe in the product and we are just super excited to share it with our clients and get them a solution that fits their needs,” Ability General Manager Lisa Burnett said when asked by Lightspeed to share her feelings about the Ability and Lightspeed partnership.
She praised Lightspeed’s dedication to customer support, both in onboarding and in offering different support solutions to meet the needs of merchants where they are at currently and plan for where they’d like to be in the future. Given that Ability is primarily a QuickBooks Solution Provider, the integration between Lightspeed and QuickBooks was paramount, and with Lightspeed POS integration and compatibility with existing hardware as well as its robust offline capabilities, it proved to be well-equipped to meet the needs of Ability clients, past, present and future.
Lightspeed POS integration isn’t just good on paper, however. Lightspeed Payments offers competitive rates and seeks to secure more favorable rates for its merchants who process a high volume of transactions, which means it rewards businesses for their successes. But for Burnett, who was once again named a Top 100 QuickBooks ProAdvisor in 2023, and is an expert in not only QuickBooks, but also (and especially) knowing what clients need at a day-to-day, granular level, it’s the little things, like being able to see payment reports right in the Lightspeed platform, that count.
“Lightspeed has this insight into what it’s really like to run a business, and it’s all in the details. We make sure to provide them because they’re actually very important,” Burnett told Lightspeed.
Ability has been a trusted name in providing business solutions for small and mid-market businesses in a way that demonstrates that we know our clients inside and out. We approach everything we do with a high level of intention and integrity, and finding a point of sale solution such as Lightspeed is part of that effort. With Ability, Lightspeed and QuickBooks combined, your business will be more powerful than ever.
